Sadly, due to COVID-19 restrictions this event has been cancelled for this year. This is more sad news for all the potters taking part and for collectors too, but there’s always another angle to take… Time to create a new body of work for next year’s show!

Farnham Maltings hosts its annual ceramic extravaganza in November; perfect timing for those who want to avoid the usual festive fare and opt for more individual creativity. Fewer, better things indeed.

Farnham styles itself a craft town, and Art in Clay here is a calendar highlight for potters, collectors, students and enthusiasts, and I’m looking forward to returning to the show and enjoying the buzz of all the makers showing their latest work and meeting old friends.

Give yourself plenty of time; the Maltings is a wonderful maze of a building, recently given a sympathetic facelift, so an even better backdrop to terrific ceramic talent around every corner, from recent graduates at the beginning of their careers to those of us who’ve already done a bit of time.
